Social and Environmental Responsibility
For Banco Pine , operating with social responsibility means, above all, employing the highest ethical standards in all aspects of its business, contributing to the economic development of society as a whole and doing everything possible to ensure that all resources are used in a sustainable manner.
Since the Bank’s inception, these principles have been an integral part of its values and are reflected in its day-to-day activities and in the creation of long-lasting, ethical relationships based on respect for our clients, employees, partners, authorities and other stakeholders.
As a result, Banco PINE has been able to expand and consolidate its position in the market, winning the public’s recognition for the high quality and conscientious nature of its work.
In addition to investing in the development of its employees, Banco PINE also sponsors social, cultural and sporting projects, thereby benefiting the community. The projects in question are subject to a rigorous selection process which considers their effective social and cultural returns.
Banco PINE has been increasing its social activities by expanding the number of initiatives it sponsors in the cultural, sporting, educational and social spheres, including:
Culture
Under the Rouanet Law, the Bank supported the publications “A Cidade e a Rosa”, which presents a retrospective of the artist Paulo Von Poser and “Diário de bordo de Pero Lopes de Sousa e a viagem de Martim Afonso de Sousa (1530- 1532)”, which tells of the expedition that resulted in the foundation of São Vicente, Brazil’s first settlement.
Sports
Through the Federal Sports Incentive Law, Banco PINE is engaged in programs such as Crianças e Jovens que Brilham (Children and Youth who Shine), educational workshops combined with tennis classes in public schools with the participation of the hearing impaired; and Fortalecimento do Hipismo (Strengthening Equestrianism) a program created by the Equestrian Association of the State of São Paulo (FPH) to promote equestrianism as a healthy sporting activity accessible to people of all social levels.
Social
Through the Municipal Children’s Adolescent Fund (FUMCAD), Banco PINE sponsors the “Casa Hope” Home for Children with Cancer, which provides bio-psychosocial and educational support at no charge to underprivileged children and adolescents with cancer; the institute “Alfabetização Solidária” (AlfaSol), which works to reduce illiteracy in youths and adults in Brazil; project focused on adolescence and youth, run by the Institute “Sedes Sapientiae”, which promotes free therapy to public school students from underprivileged regions; and the institute “Casa da Providência”, promoting assistance and protection to needy children aged between 4 months and 4 years of age of working mothers through free full-time nurseries, with socio-educational activities.
Sustainability
PINE draws on credit lines approved by multilateral institutions, such as the IADB (Inter-American Development Bank), DEG (owned by the German bank KFW), FMO (Finance for Development), OPIC (Overseas Private Investment Corporation), CCC (Commodity Credit Corporation) and the IFC (International Finance Corporation), which predicate loans on compliance with the “exclusion lists” of these institutions that proscribe financing projects or organizations that damage the environment, are involved in illegal labor practices, or produce, sell or make use of products, substances or specific activities considered harmful to our society.
Also focusing on the adoption of practices that are essential for its relationship with international agencies, in 2008 Banco PINE was the first among mid-sized banks to implement the environmental monitoring system and publish a corporate loan sustainability report. The system, funded by the Inter-American Development Bank (IADB) and coordinated by the Getúlio Vargas Foundation (FGV), builds a sustainable chain between the Bank and its clients, since commitments with business sustainability, which are expressed through the reports, are required from the company-clients.
Increasingly reinforcing its commitment to business longevity, in 2008 Banco PINE moved to new, sustainable headquarters that qualify for the Green Building Certificate, which promotes lower energy consumption, recycling, ventilation, parking spaces for low-emission vehicles and bicycles, water reuse and treatment, and other environmentally friendly features.
